Batchmates

Marketing site for a student app whose entire value is that not everyone can get in.

Client
Batchmates — college-exclusive social app for verified Indian students
Role
Design + build · 2026

The problem

The product's selling point is exclusion — only verified students of a given college get in — and that is also the thing that stalls the install. A visitor's first question is whether they are eligible and their second is how to prove it. An app store listing answers neither, and a normal features page never gets asked.

What’s on it

  • Nine feature cards, each tagged ACADEMIC or SOCIAL
  • 'How to Get College Code' as a first-level navigation item
  • Campus Ambassador programme with its own recruitment section
  • Google Play and App Store links in a dedicated download section
  • Free-forever, no-card line repeated at each call to action
  • Vision section separating community, innovation, student success and reach

The calls

01

Gave 'How to get your college code' its own nav item, sitting before Download.

The verification gate is the single biggest reason an install stops halfway. Putting the answer in the navigation treats it as the objection it actually is, rather than burying it in a support article nobody reaches.

02

Tagged every one of the nine features ACADEMIC or SOCIAL.

A student decides in seconds whether this is a study tool or a place to make friends, and the honest answer is both — which is the worst possible answer to give as a paragraph. Tagging lets each visitor read their half and skip the other.

03

Recruited campus ambassadors from the marketing site rather than from inside the app.

A college-gated network is empty on every campus until someone there starts it. The ambassador section is distribution, placed where a features page would normally just stop.

04

Put 'free forever, no credit card' next to the call to action, not on a pricing page.

Students assume a free student app is a trial that will ask for a card at the worst moment. Answering it at the point of decision is the only place the answer is worth anything.

“A college-gated network is empty until someone on that campus opens the gate.”
